MAGIC

starring Anthony Hopkins, 1978
The premise is cliched but it’s a good one! The subtitle is “A terrifying love story.”
A disturbed celebrity magician finds himself at the mercy of his murderous dummy, Fats. Seeking refuge from his new found fame, he heads to the isolated mountain retreat run by his high school love, Peggy, in hopes of starting a new life; but finds that Fats has no intentions of letting him off so easy. “It’s as if Gilliam went into the film on a dare, making a wager with himself, and the world at large, on how dark, tragic and disturbing a movie he could make, while still making it charming, magical, even whimsical.” Source
This movie was so odd and so quirky and so… “Terry Gilliam” that I had to mention it. How do dolls fit in? The main character, a little girl, alone in the world, has only a few friends and they happen to be doll heads that she wears on her fingers: Mystique, Baby Blonde, Glitter Gal, Sateen Lips. And they really do talk.
I was so impressed Gilliam was able to walk the fine line in making a film involving a child that was this dark.

I am trying to find a movie I watched as a child, and always had nightmares from! It was about a lady who lived near an island and she rows over to the island & there is an old house. She goes in & it’s empty other than tonnes of dolls. All I can really remember is one doll with tears rolling down its face… can’t remember much more, but wondered if you may be able to help me work out what movie this was!
