On Wed, June 2, I moved in to the Firehouse Center for the Arts as the artist in residence.
Wow did I completely underestimate the amount of space there is on the 4th floor! I am so used to working in tiny spaces – and doll making, by its nature, involves working with small things. So I am in love with the openness and the elbow room but at the same time overwhelmed by the possibilities of having so much space to display and work.
I would like to create an installation that is like a child’s room and fill it with dolls as my time there progresses. My dolls never have the opportunity to be shown in their natural habitat so this is their chance! On the opposite wall I want to show my newest interest – which is in the Day of the Dead designs on mask-like wall hangings. And we’ll see what else pops up along the way! I’m really thrilled to have the opportunity to work in such an amazing environment and to meet with the public and show my work.
So I want to welcome everyone to come and visit me and see how everything progresses!
