Is there anything sweeter than honey?
Darva loves honey. In a moment of unbridled craving she believes that there is only one thing that could be sweeter than honey… it must be the thing that created it.
Darva’s name means “honey”. I have 2 new sculptures available in this theme just in time for Spring. I have a blonde version and a brunette version. Darva is a one of a kind handmade doll. She is in a sitting position, attached to a wood base. She is 12.5 inches tall and 10 inches wide. She has an overturned honey bear in her lap with resin honey pouring out. She is holding a real honey bee (which happens to be from Tanzania). Her hair is mohair and her clothing has been hand sewn onto her, they contain vintage lace and buttons. The making of these one of a kind sculptures was filmed for a project with Cabin 46.
Over the last month I have been working with Bruce Gibbs from Cabin 46 on a mini documentary about my work. It has been quite an adventure! He filmed the making of the Darva dolls and was ingenious when it came down to retro fitting his cameras to capture my work space and process. This was the first time in my life I had to ride my motorcycle with a camera attached to my back! The editing process is underway, I will send out the link once it is finished.
