I am happy to announce that the Strange Dolls shop has re-opened and I have revived some old favorites on a made-to-order basis: Dr. Scops, Accident Dolls, Day of the Dead Dolls, Worry Dolls (particularly applicable to the times we find ourselves in), Corpse Paint Dolls, and the Bird Dolls. Version 2.0 (or 10.0 if anyone is counting) means each doll is filled with a bit of witchi-ness. Their bodies are now filled with dried flowers and/or essential oils applicable to the theme of each doll and witchy intentions to get us through dark places.

In addition, I have brought back smaller, non-doll items: pendants and brooches, pincushions, Medusa magnets, gift cards for my shop, doll stands, and Christmas ornaments.

To mention the un-mentionable:

I find it redundant to say that the last two years have been epic-ly dramatic in terms of life changes for everyone. But here we are. Personally, I had not one, but two massive job changes. I also broke my arm right before the shutdown (on Valentine’s Day, to be exact) and went through surgery and a recovery that I truly thought would end my life as an artist. But I find that life IS more peaceful on the other side, more focused, more creative, and more abundant. Hey. Maybe it’s all gonna work out just fine.

Christmas Ornaments

Inspired by Victorian architecture and the idea of haunted houses with door knockers that speak (I’ve been listening to too many ghost story podcasts), I created these in time for Christmas. While they will hang perfectly on a Christmas tree, in the off-season they can also hang right on the wall. Triple bonus – when the lights go out – they eerily glow in the dark.

Holiday shopping will soon be upon us so I hope you will share the link to my website with your friends and family: http://www.strangedolls.net.

Tabitha & Emmaline

Over the last few years, I have been making dolls primarily in clay. This was largely due to the fact I moved my studio home and was short on space to spread out. But during Covid, I re-designed my live/work space and decided to dust off the old beast and delve back into the way I started making Strange Dolls in the first place. A recent experiment has been transferring my sketches onto fabric. You can see the results of that experiment in Tabitha’s dress.

Interview on The Root Cellar Podcast

Catch the premiere of the Root Cellar podcast, November 15, where I chat with host, Alexander Hogan, about my creative process and Strange Dolls. Alex and I talked for 3 hours that day. Turns out I have a lot to say on the topic of life as an artist and living inside a creative mind during a pandemic. You can find The Root Cellar on iTunes, Spotify, and anywhere and everywhere else you get your podcasts. Subscribe now and get notified when the show airs!
